From staff reports
The League of Women Voters Leelanau County will host Monika Smiley and her presentation of her recent trip to Rwanda. “A Journey to Rwanda: Where Women Entrepreneurs Are Building Their Country and Making a Real Difference” will be held Tuesday, August 12, at 10:30 a.m. in the Munnecke Room of the Leland Township Public Library. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
Monica Smiley is editor and publisher of Enterprising Women. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Institute of Economic Empowerment of Women and is a member of the Women’s PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS Program. In these roles Smiley’s focus is on education, mentoring, and coaching women in the United States and abroad who are seeking to acquire entrepreneurial skills to start and grow businesses. Special attention is given to those women who have suffered oppression and marginalization, and whose homelands have been devastated by war, genocide, and poverty.
Smiley says, “Few experiences I have had in my lifetime compare to a trip I took to Rwanda”. Everyone is welcome at the August 12th presentation. Monika Smiley will be in Leelanau visting her Omena brother Steve Smiley and sister-in-law Susan Kopka.
