League of Women Voters examines early childhood intervention, public health

On Wednesday, April 6, at noon at the Leelanau County Government Center the League of Women Voters Leelanau County will host a forum entitled “Early Childhood Intervention Improves Public Health”. Presenters will include Robin Hornkohl, Early Childhood Specialist at the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District and Shen Chefalo, author of Garbage Bag Suitcase. The audience will be introduced to Adverse Childhood Experiences (A.C.E) study findings via a video featuring Nadine Burke Harris, a pediatrician who addresses the health consequences of childhood trauma and chronic stress. The forum will then focus on how early intervention can strengthen families to overcome such adversities.
The public is invited to the presentation. Many people bring a sack lunch. A LWVLC business meeting will follow the presentation.
