Lake Street Studios Center Gallery hosts painter Holly Sturges

Northern Michigan painter Holly Sturges will show her latest works at the Lake Street Studios Center Gallery in Glen Arbor from June 28–July 4 with an opening reception Friday, June 28, from 6-8 pm. “My paintings focus on the breath-taking beauty of the Sleeping Bear area,” Sturges said about her work. “I have been visiting Glen Arbor regularly since 1990 and paint plein air when I am here. The days and weeks of sitting in the dunes or the fields observing nature and historic farms have imprinted these views on my brain.

“Oil paint is my medium and I paint on panels when I paint outside in the warmer months. During the cold times in Michigan I paint in my studio on larger canvases and reiterate what I have seen and felt in the dunes and fields.

“I have been painting in the Sleeping Bear Dunes since the early 1990s, taking classes through the Glen Art Arts Center and becoming an Artist in Residence in 2009. The work in this show represents my most recent interpretations of the beauty I find here. Recently I have been fascinated by the intimate corners of barns connecting and the shadows found there.”
