Young entrepreneurs Katy and Matt Wiesen are re-opening their Coastal retail clothing store this spring in a swanky new building on the east side of Glen Arbor.

Between Coastal and the M22 store they’ll also open an outdoor wine bar which will feature larger pours of 16 wines and ciders all custom-blended by Black Star Farms.

“This space is perfect for taking a little more time during your shopping day in Glen Arbor, enjoying a sip of wine after kayaking or biking, or just soaking up Glen Arbor,” said Katy.

The space will feature a large bar, an outdoor fire pit and lounge furniture purchased at Northwoods Home and Garden. Starting in late June, they’ll offer live music on Thursday nights from 5-7 p.m. The outdoor wine bar aims to remain open through the fall for mulled wine by the fire.

“By moving Coastal to the Crystal River Outfitters Recreational District, it allows all of our stores (three of which will now be open year-round) to play off the synergy of each other through all seasons,” said Katy. “We want people to know that Glen Arbor does not shut down come November. There are reasons to come to Glen Arbor for your winter weekend getaways and your holiday shopping.”

The Cyclery rents (and fixes) bicycles during the warm months and offers cross-country skis and snowshoe rentals when the snow flies, and the M22 store pours wines all year long.

Last year Coastal opened on M-109 between the Good Harbor Grill and Ruth Conklin Gallery. Katy said the store “tested the waters with new brands and even kids’ items, and it convinced us that the bigger store would work.”

“Being able to keep it open year-round will allow us to bring in more product throughout the seasons,” she said. “You’ll notice a mix of modern and rustic. We will finally have a large enough space to showcase our new Stand Up Paddleboards for sale.”

The best place to try on shoes in the store is while sitting on a repurposed chairlift from Sugar Loaf mountain.

Coastal’s new proximity to the Wiesens’ others stores will dramatically simplify life for the busy couple.

“Matt and I are very hands-on in our management style and our shops are all busy at different times of the day so being able to float in and out of the shops and support our managers and employees all within even closer proximity is so helpful.”

Coastal’s new brands this year will include Faherty, United By Blue, Corkcicle, Pendelton and Herschel.
