Glen Lake Library hosts Road to Empire author

The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host local author John Wemlinger on Tuesday, August 15 at 6:00 pm. Wemlinger will present his newly-published novel The Road to Empire, which follows the journey of a young helicopter pilot from the small town of Empire, Michigan in the wake of 9/11. The novel explores the challenges faced by military personnel as they balance their sense of duty with the pull of personal and family committments. Wemlinger, an Onekema resident, is a retired US Army colonel with 27 years of military service. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was a pilot and helicopter maintenance officer.

Wemlinger’s previous novel, The Cut, was selected as a 2022 Michigan Notable Book. His presentation at the library will begin with an informal open house, followed by a brief reading.
