The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its library expansion project on Saturday, May 4, at 11 AM. The Board of Trustees, staff members, project volunteers and other guests will be on hand to celebrate the official kickoff of the project, which is now under construction. The Friends of the Library will provide light refreshments. In case of bad weather, the gathering will take place at the Empire Township Hall, across the street from the construction site.
The Glen Lake Library is hosting its annual Ode to Asparagus as part of the upcoming Empire Asparagus Festival. Poets are invited to submit their asparagus-themed verse to the library by Thursday, May 16. Poems can be emailed to info@glenlakelibrary.net; mailed to GLCL, PO Box 325, Empire, MI 49630; or dropped off at the library’s interim location, 12020 S. Leelanau Hwy, Empire. All entries will be shared at the poetry reading on Saturday, May 18 at 2 PM, at the Empire Township Hall. Prizes will be awarded for the top poems, including an Audience Choice pick for the best recitation.
