Glen Lake Community Library hosts presentations on birds, dunes

From staff reports

The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host a presentation by photographer and birding expert Wayne Pope on Thursday, Oct. 5. He’ll share his new book Birds of Michigan: Notable Species Volume 1, a collection of photographs, natural history notes, personal observations and even poems. Pope is a photography instructor at Lansing Community College, and a life-long birding enthusiast. He presents workshops on digital photography throughout Michigan and Indiana. Copies of his book will be available to purchase at the presentation, which will take place at 6:30 pm.

The Glen Lake Library will host photographer Rich Ackerman on Tuesday, Oct. 7. His new book The Dunes of Lake Michigan’s Eastern Shore is the result of a lifetime of photographing towering perch dunes, marshes and fens, forests, plants and wildlife. Ackerman’s work expresses the realism, beauty and spiritual joy of these unique ecosystems, chronicling the ever-changing zone where land and lake meet. The book is available exclusively at the Cottage Book Shop in Glen Arbor and Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, Ill. Copies will also be available for purchase at the library on the night of his presentation. The program will take place at 7 pm.
