Friends of Sleeping Bear seeks trail ambassadors

From staff reports

Trail Ambassadors volunteering on the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail help visitors by answering questions, giving directions, and handing out coupons for Cherry Republic ice cream when they find trail users “doing something right.” Ambassadors are our eyes and ears on the trail reporting maintenance or safety issues that need to be resolved.

Ambassadors wear a stylish, bright orange Ambassador vest, so visitors will know that you are official Park Volunteers, and ask that you report your observations and experiences after each ride. It’s easy and fun.

This training session for new Trail Ambassadors will be held Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at the DH Day Log Cabin in DH Day Campground — right along the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. Parking at the campground is limited, so ride your bike — and wear your helmet. You can also park at Glen Haven and walk or ride to the Log Cabin.

We will update you on the status of the trail and maintenance projects planned this year, talk about fundraising for building the last segments of trail, review experiences from last year, and talk about safety and law enforcement issues.
