Fresh off the Easel: 14th annual Leland Air returns to Old Art Building

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

The Old Art Building is thrilled to announce the return of its signature spring event, Leland Air, on Saturday, May 23. This 14th annual plein air tradition invites artists from across the region to capture the awakening Northern Michigan landscape in a high-energy, single-day celebration of art and community.

Leland Air is a unique “wet paint” event that challenges artists to create original works en plein air (outdoors) throughout Leelanau County during the day. As the afternoon approaches, the finished “fresh-off-the-easel” pieces are brought back to the Old Art Building for an exhibition and sale.

There is a specific kind of magic that happens during Leland Air. You can feel the collective energy of dozens of artists scattered across our vineyards, shorelines, and historic Fishtown, all working to capture the same spring light. Bringing those works together for the evening reception is a powerful way to kick off our summer season.

Event Schedule – Saturday, May 23:

• Artists paint at various locations around Leland and Leelanau County.

6:30-8 pm: Opening Night Reception and Exhibition at the Old Art Building.

Full Exhibit Hours:

May 24-28: The Leland Air Exhibit remains open to the public daily from 10 am to 4 pm.
