Educators, bring your students to Sleeping Bear Dunes

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is providing outdoor educational field trips in May and June. The National Lakeshore is an outstanding natural classroom that provides endless educational opportunities. Your students have the opportunity to learn about science and history in a hands-on, experiential format. The National Lakeshore has several field trip options, including ranger-led hikes on the Cottonwood Trail, Heroes of the Storm historic life-saving reenactments, blacksmithing demonstrations, and activities inside the Maritime Museum and the Cannery Boat Museum. Space is also available for their annual Glen Haven Days event on May 25 and May 26. Teachers also have the opportunity to extend learning into the classroom by completing pre and post visit activities that are available for free on their website. Additionally, the National Lakeshore may be able to send a ranger to your classroom to present a program prior to your field trip. Classroom visits and field trips are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are required and must be made at least two weeks in advance, but the earlier you schedule, the more flexibility you have in choosing your date.
