Cherry Republic, Glen Lake Chamber mourn passing of Kathy Baarstad
From staff reports
It is with profound sadness that Cherry Republic announces the sudden passing of longtime employee and treasured friend Kathy Baarstad, who died on November 6 after a brief illness.
Anyone who visited Cherry Republic’s Glen Arbor campus over the past 12 years no doubt encountered Kathy’s dazzling smile and friendly welcome. As general manager of the company’s flagship location, Kathy oversaw the Great Hall, the Cherry Republic Winery, the Cherry Public House, and campus gardens. It was a daunting task, but Kathy made it look effortless—tackling every challenge with a can-do spirit along with a hilarious sense of humor.
Kathy was, however, much more than an employee. She was an integral part of the Cherry Republic family—with endless current and former co-workers considering her their best friend, confidant, and even surrogate mother. Whether extending her kindness to people all over the world through the company’s Work Exchange Program or spreading joy in her own community through her volunteering—including as current President of the Glen Arbor Chamber of Commerce—or volunteering to make 200 homemade cupcakes for a friend’s birthday, Kathy embodied what it means to be a compassionate and caring person.
But Kathy’s true passion was her family, including husband Dave, daughters Kadi and Sara, and son Cameron. For those wishing to support the family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe page has been created and donations are welcome.
A Celebration of Life for Kathy will take place Sunday, November 13, from 1-4 p.m. at Cherry Republic’s Glen Arbor Campus. The public is invited to attend the open house, and refreshments will be provided. Music will be performed by longtime friends and colleagues Chris Skellenger and Pat Niemisto.
The Cherry Republic campus will be closed for business all day Sunday, Nov. 13.
