Bear on Miller Hill
From staff reports
Miller Hill resident Michael Collier writes that on Wednesday, June 11, he spotted and photographed a black bear at his bird feeder.
“This shy fellow happened to find our bird feeder, eventually destroying it obtaining the seeds,” writes Collier. “He/she snapped the pole off near the ground while leaning against it, then ran off like a bullet down the hill when I opened the outside door and stomped on the deck.”
“I picture those ears hearing every sound, maybe sounds beyond my perception; and nose maybe more keen than my dogs. Speaking of my dog, she became maniacal seeing a creature like this for the first time. I was afraid to let her out fearing she would follow Mr. Bear down the hill.”
“Just the experience of seeing this animal was an amazing gift. The last time I saw a bear this close was decades ago in the Tetons. here in the northern Michigan … utterly sublime.”
