Library presents children’s programs

The Glen Lake Community Library in Empire will begin it’s summer season of children’s programs with a presentation on Thursday, June 18, at 11 a.m. by Al Declercq, author of Bernida: a Michigan Sailing Legend. Declercq’s book, about the sailboat that won the inaugural Port Huron to Mackinac Island race in 1925, was selected as a Michigan Notable Book by the Library of Michigan.

Rave in the Dunes?

Local law enforcement believe they may have stopped a massive and illegal rave party from taking place at North Bar Lake last Saturday night. Dozens of police cars were deployed to Empire by the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and sheriff’s departments from Grand Traverse and Benzie County.
