Glen Arbor Sun’s 2016 election coverage

In advance of the Nov. 8 general election, the Glen Arbor Sun reached out to interview candidates for Leelanau’s seven County Commission seats (both incumbents and challengers) and two candidates vying to replace John Soderholm as Glen Arbor Township Supervisor. At least one candidate for each County Commission seat responded to our interview request, as did both candidates for Township Supervisor — Bob Hawley and Peter Van Nort.

Women rising … to the White House?

With the 2016 presidential election just weeks away, and with the possibility of a woman winning the nation’s highest office, the Glen Arbor Sun asked several of our regular contributors to share their thoughts on feminism, women’s achievements during their lifetimes, and the prospect of Hillary Clinton in the Oval Office. Despite nearly a century of gains, sexism and misogyny continue to rear their shameful heads, particularly in this presidential election.

Glen Lake Chamber holds Pumpkin Fest, Oct. 22

Join the Glen Arbor community for the inaugural family-friendly Pumpkin Fest from 1-6 p.m. on Oct. 22. This celebration of Fall will take place in downtown Glen Arbor all afternoon, giving participants time to carve their artistic creations, enjoy family-friendly activities and contests, followed by a Pumpkin lighting at dusk and a community Dinner.

Glen Arbor Art goes on the road to Frankfort

Thirty-three paintings and photographs selected from the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) Artist-in-Residence Collection (2008-present) will be exhibited at the Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts in Frankfort, Oct. 21-Nov. 26. The show opens with a reception Oct. 21, 5-7 p.m. at the Oliver Art Center, 132 Coast Guard Road.

GAAA Readers’ Theater announces cast for Radio Days

The Glen Arbor Art Association’s Readers’ Theater announces the cast for its October production of an adaptation entitled Radio Days. The production is actually two playlets, with the first being a comedy and the second a mystery. A broadcast from the NBC program The Fabulous Dr. Tweedydeals with a bumbling college professor and a young child left by her father into his care. A CBS program Inner Sanctum provides the second offering, which was called “The Voice On The Wire”.

Readers’ Theater announces auditions for The Bishop’s Wife, Oct. 10

Auditions will be held for The Bishop’s Wife on October 10 at 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church (GLCRC), 4902 MacFarlane Road in Glen Arbor.

Genuine Leelanau Fall Family Fun Day

Quickly becoming a Leelanau family tradition, Genuine Leelanau’s Family Fun Day will be held Sunday, Oct. 9 from 1-3 p.m. in Maple City.
