Tuesday evenings in July in Northport will highlight a special writers’ series at the Leelanau Township Library. All of the events are free and open to the public.

Old Friends return to Old Settlers with July 13 tribute concert

Last summer’s Simon & Garfunkel tribute concert at Old Settlers’ Park was such a hit, they’re doing it again but with one major improvement. Enter “Looking Forward,” the trio made up of local favorites and all-around good guys—former Glen Lake music teachers Pat Niemisto, John Kumjian, and urban agriculturalist Chris Skellenger, of Buckets of Rain fame.

Arts Center features history of Anishinaabek people

Our unusual cold weather is actually caused by global warming. Our extremely cold winter was outbalanced by simultaneous record-breaking heat in Australia. Meanwhile, the Arctic continues to be warmer than normal. That affects everything above the equator.

Climate Change to blame for high Lake Michigan water levels

We had a 15-year period of intense evaporation followed by a cold snap (the Polar Vortex) in a sequence that was unprecedented. The weather turned. Quickly. This indicates a change. The range is new and the speed of the swing is new. “If you have events that are not part of your historical record that represent a change in conditions, that’s the definition of climate change,” said scientist Andrew Gronewold.

July 4 Flag Raising Ceremony at Old Settlers Park

Celebrate the founding of our nation in a patriotic, joyous ceremony with community members of all ages. The Flag Raising will be performed by members of the local VFW.
