,

From staff reports

After a successful inaugural year, the Glen Arbor Art Association will begin its second season of Readers Theater with “The 39 Steps”, a fast-paced thriller about spies, secrets, murder and mayhem directed by Teddy House and featuring an all local cast. The adaption of the Alfred Hitchcock story is slated for Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. with a Sunday matinee, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m.

“This is our most ambitious project to date,” says House, “Luckily, we have local residents with amazing hidden talents.”

The large cast includes Ron Smith, Karen and Peter Van Nort, Susan McConnell, Corey Woessner, Claire Shipley, Rob Turney, Mike Duwe, John Rentenbach, David Watt, Kathleen McCormick, Jack Goodnow and Trish Vanderploeg. Ralph Mittelberger and James Deaton will handle sound effects, an important part of a Readers Theater production. Mason Query and Harriett Mittelberger assist House with direction.

The Glen Arbor Art Association has long been associated with promoting artists of many genres in Leelanau County. Readers Theater now joins the ranks of the Manitou Music Festival, Artist in Residence gallery showings, Talk About Art and many children’s programs as yet another avenue for community members to participate and enjoy.

This free event, open to the public, will be held at the Glen Arbor Art Association on Lake Street, opposite Cherry Republic, on both Dec. 1 and 2. Seating is limited so an early arrival is recommended. Readers Theater will continue throughout the winter with performances in February, April and June.
