Art Association annual Paint Out registrations fill in record time
From staff reports
The Glen Arbor Art Association’s eighth Plein Air weekend opened and closed artist registrations for the 60 available slots for the Saturday, August 6 Paint Out, which was close to full in a record 60 minutes on March 30. The highly popular weekend for artists and art lovers will be held August 4-6. While registration for Saturday is now closed, artists may still sign up to be on the waiting list.
Registration for the two other Plein Air events that weekend have open registration. The Sundowner Paint Out on Thursday night August 4, will give artists the opportunity to paint one of Leelanau Peninsula’s beautiful sunsets, or the nighttime sky. “Painting a sunset is a huge challenge for artists”‘ said event co-chair Linda Young. “They must quickly capture the sunset as the light and sky change.” The Friday, August 5, Quick Draw event will find artists painting the Crystal River. The Quick Draw artists complete a painting in the two hour time limit.
Paintings from the Quick Draw and the Sundowner are entered in the Quick Sale Exhibit at the Glen Arbor township hall Friday, August 5 from 5-6:30 which is free to the public. The finale of the Plein Air weekend is Saturday, August 6 with a wine and appetizer exhibit and art sale from the featured 60 artists. Paintings entered in both exhibits will be judged for cash prize awards.
