Secret Garden
The Secret Garden, now in its 25th year, is a seasonal gallery of art and handcrafts. The award-winning, renowned gallery offers the work of more than 200 artists from all over North America and features the work of many Michigan and local artists. We are a family-friendly gallery with whimsical, contemporary, affordable art that is accessible to everyone. Located in a 19th-century storefront in Empire’s financial district (i.e. next to the bank), The Secret Garden opened in 1988. It’s owned by Bruce and Cynthia Taggart, who spend their off-seasons teaching music at Michigan State University. We are two blocks from Lake Michigan, in the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which was voted “The most beautiful place in America” by Good Morning America. From the east (Traverse City) travel west on M-72 until it turns into Front St. From the south (Frankfort) and north (Glen Arbor), take M-22 to Empire; turn west at the blinking light onto Front St. From the west (Wisconsin), beach your boat on the sugar sand and walk into town.
