State Savings Bank celebrates 130 years
From staff reports
This year, State Savings Bank is celebrating its 130-year anniversary. This milestone marks more than a century of helping northern Michigan families and businesses reach their financial goals, while remaining a locally owned, independent community bank.
The anniversary also comes with an unexpected twist. For many years, State Savings Bank was thought to have been founded in 1901. However, recently uncovered historical documents showed that the bank first opened its doors in Frankfort in 1896, making this year its 130th anniversary. The bank’s original name was Benzie County State Bank.
“While banking has changed dramatically over the years, our commitment to our customers has not,” said Blake Brooks, executive vice president and CEO. “For 130 years, our success has been built on relationships. Generations of families, businesses and communities have placed their trust in us, and we’re honored to continue serving northern Michigan with the same local decision-making and personalized service that have defined us from the beginning.”
Throughout the summer, State Savings Bank will host customer appreciation events at each of its offices to thank customers and communities for their trust and support over the past 130 years. Details can be found on the bank’s website, ssbankmi.com/130.
Since opening in Frankfort in 1896, State Savings Bank has expanded its footprint across northern Michigan with full-service offices in Traverse City, Empire, Suttons Bay, Frankfort, Beulah and Gaylord, and loan centers in Big Rapids, Caro and Houghton Lake.
Today, the bank continues to provide personal and business banking services, mortgages, treasury management, and investment and trust services while maintaining its signature “Yes, I can!” approach to taking care of customers.
