We all have seen it. We all appreciate it. And it is unique. The only garden planted at a post office that I know of is in lovely downtown Glen Arbor. This is the result of planter, and U.S. Post Office sales service associate Cyndi Warnes.
Cyndi finds “pleasure, stress relief, fun and the joy the garden brings to everyone.” She was inspired to carry on a tradition started by local resident Annette Lewis, who voluntarily planted flowers there for some years. Now it is a blooming bed of beautiful flowers andtomatoes andherbs—as in basil, rosemary, dill and more.
Cyndi has served in the Glen Arbor post office for 15 years. Prior to that she also served in a similar capacity in all Leelanau County post offices except for Suttons Bay. When she and her husband, Mike, moved to the area, Cyndi came with a civil service background.
Growing up with a father in the Air Force, Cyndi lived in many different states and also in Japan, Spain and Puerto Rico. She is the middle child in a family with five children. She and Mike share their blended family which includes eight children, 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Cyndi is passionate about gardening, music, dancing and family. Her favorite pastime after working all day is to head home to her garden there. Her reasons for planting the post office garden is “the garden is for everybody and makes people happy”.
