Watercolorist Andy Evansen to teach at The Homestead

Andy Evansen, renowned watercolorist from Minnesota, returns to Glen Arbor to teach a four-day workshop sponsored by the Glen Arbor Art Association at The Homestead resort, Oct. 13-16. Born in Wisconsin in 1965, Evansen was educated at the University of Minnesota and has studied with watercolorists Skip Lawrence, Eric Weigardt and Alvaro Castagnet.

Gardening from Monticello to Leelanau County

Local Personality, Upcoming Event

Celebrated professional gardener, author, and historic landscape authority Peter J. Hatch will visit Leelanau County, Oct. 1-3, for a series of public lectures and programs. Hatch served as director of Gardens and Grounds at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello for 35 years and has published four books on Monticello’s botanic legacy including A Rich Spot of Earth: Thomas Jefferson’s Revolutionary Garden at Monticello. He lectures extensively on Jefferson and the history of garden plants, and currently consults on public garden projects and private estate landscapes.

You are invited to a special winter benefit for the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) and the kickoff event for the Leelanau Peninsula Vintners Association’s “Taste the Passion Weekend”. Art From Michigan’s Wine Country takes place on Friday, Feb. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at The Homestead Resort’s Mountain Flowers Lodge and features an invitational art exhibit, wine from the LPVA, and delectable small plates by The Homestead’s chef Jon Piombo.

Homestead announces Music on the Mountain concert lineup

Upcoming Event

This summer-long series of concerts will be held at the top of Bay Mountain at The Homestead resort north of Glen Arbor. Mingle with old friends and new during the Happy Hour. Purchase one or more tickets in the 50/50 raffle. You could win half the money and you will help our lakeshore, as the other half will be donated to Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear.

Leelanau County is the third healthiest country in the nation, according to a new University of Wisconsin study, so chances are, you and your neighbors are fairly active people. It isn’t often that a winemaker from Italy travels to Leelanau County to interact with dinner guests, but on Sept. 26, Angela Maculan of Maculan Estate Winery will be at The Homestead to do just that.
