Late this past winter, David Gersenson acquired the Sylvan Inn. The founder and former owner of Door to Door Organics, which provides home delivery of organic and natural foods, moved three years ago with wife Theresa and their two children from Nederland, Colo., to nearby Cedar. Gersenson just completed his second Glen Arbor hotel acquisition within five months. We talked with him in mid-July about taking over the Glen Arbor Lakeshore Inn.
Cedar residents David and Theresa Gersenson are the new owners of the Sylvan Inn, the guesthouse at 6680 Western Avenue in Glen Arbor. They closed the deal Feb. 11, almost three years after moving to Leelanau County from Nederland, Colo., a small mountain town located about 15 miles west of Boulder.
Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear (PHSB), a partner of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, is announcing its first “We Love Our Park!” photography contest. This year, the subject is historic and cultural resources in the Park. The deadline for digital submissions is July 16. Participants can enter up to two photos of historic buildings located in the park, for $20, or three photos for $25. PHSB invites people to get out and visit the historic buildings in the Park and experience first-hand the magnitude and value of this heritage.
On the wall of the Sylvan Inn hangs a stamped government document scripted in the florid calligraphy of the nineteenth century. It has the authoritative, definitive, official look of an unalterable truth, and it indicates that William Walker has made full payment and hereby records the Deed of Purchase and assumes Title to 72 acres of property in Glen Arbor on November 1, 1890.
