Run faster than the Bear

On July 28, the Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & ½ Mile Kids’ Run takes off for its ninth year. What makes a beautiful summer day even better? Spending it with family and friends who take the challenge. You can run or walk the 5K. Runners compete in 10 different age categories from 10 & under to 80+ with first and second place metals and prizes in each from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and the Cyclery. In addition, we have the ½ Mile Kids’ Run for our younger runners. They get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon and coupons for an ice cream cone from Riverfront Ice Cream and for a game of miniature golf from Dale’s of Glen Arbor. Bring the whole family and enjoy a great day.

Women’s Club hosts eighth Running Bear 5K Run/Walk

Join the Glen Arbor Women’s Club as it hosts the eighth annual Running Bear 5K Run/Walk and ½ Mile Kids’ Run on Tuesday, July 22nd. This is a favorite event for local residents and visitors. The 5K is open to everyone. You can run or walk, so young runners and seniors can both take part. The addition of the ½ Mile Kids’ Run makes this a family affair. The little ones get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon, a coupon for an ice cream cone from Riverfront Pizza and a coupon for a game of miniature golf at Dale’s of Glen Arbor.

Talented Mr. Ripley smashes Running Bear Run course record

Zack Ripley took first place at the Running Bear Run in Glen Arbor on July 23 with a 5K time of 15:37. The previous course record was 16:06. The Grand Rapids native ran with his wife Andi, who placed first in her age category. Ripley is a high school English and Social Studies teacher. “I usually run 10K races but we thought this would be a fun race to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary”, he said.

Running Bear logs sixth race

On Tuesday, July 24, the Glen Arbor Women’s Club hosts the sixth annual Running Bear 5K Run/Walk and ½ Mile Kids’ Run. This event has become popular with locals and tourists alike participating. Last year, over 700 adults and children took part. The 5K event is open to everyone. You can run or walk, so young people as well as seniors can participate in the 5K. The younger children are not forgotten and can participate in a ½ Mile “Kids’ Run”. They run/walk the ½ mile and each child will receive a ribbon, an ice cream cone from Riverfront Pizza & Specialties and a miniature golf pass from The River. Bring the whole family and join the fun.

A picture perfect race day for the Running Bear

The fifth annual Running Bear Run on July 26 was another huge success with a picture perfect day and 700 runners in attendance. There were 555 runners in the 5K and 145 kids in the half mile Kids’ Run. A great time was had by all.
