New director takes over Glen Arbor Art Association’s Manitou Music Festival

The Glen Arbor Art Association recently announced that Jack Conners will take over the production of the Manitou Music Festival. In recent years, Conners took over managing the sound for the series where he worked closely with outgoing director Harry Fried. Conners has built a successful career in the music world and began his career in 1973 as recording engineer for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Over the years he has mixed concert sound for Stan Kenton, The Mills Brothers and Grover Washington, Jr.

Manitou Music Festival features George Cole, Trina Hamlin

On Sunday, Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. the jazz/swing singer-guitarist extraordinaire George Cole will perform with his quartet at Studio Stage, located at Lake Street Studios in Glen Arbor, as part of the Glen Arbor Art Association’s Manitou Music Festival. On Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. the singer/songwriter Trina Hamlin and the jazz/swing duo The True Falsettos will perform outdoors on the Leelanau School Green, located at the Leelanau School in Glen Arbor. The rain location for both concerts is the Glen Arbor Town Hall. The festival is celebrating its 23rd season of jazz, classical, blues, folk, country, celtic, bluegrass and world music on the Leelanau Peninsula.

Manitou Music Festival features Nora Jane Struthers, Drew Nelson, Peter Paul & Mary Remembered and Full Set

The Glen Arbor Art Association’s Manitou Music Festival, which is celebrating its 23rd season of jazz, classical, blues, folk, country, celtic, bluegrass and world music on the Leelanau Peninsula, hosts a wealth of summer concerts in the coming weeks. On Sunday, July 28 at 8 p.m. the bluegrass/country singer Nora Jane Struthers will perform with her quartet outdoors at Studio Stage, located at Lake Street Studios in Glen Arbor; on Wednesday, July 31 at 8 p.m. the Michigan born country/folk singer-songwriter Drew Nelson will perform with his Highway 2 Band; on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 8 p.m. the Folk band Peter, Paul & Mary Remembered will perform at Studio Stage, and on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. the Celtic band Full Set will perform at Studio Stage. The rain location for all concerts is the Glen Arbor Town Hall, with the exception of Full Set, whose rain location is the Empire Town Hall.)

Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra croons in the Dunes

Art Association welcomes submissions for 2013 Manitou Music Festival poster

The Glen Arbor Art Association is accepting artwork submissions until Oct. 1 for the 2013 Manitou Music Festival poster. The limited edition posters are hugely popular and sold through the art association at selected shops and art galleries in Leelanau County.
