Ten local, state and national organizations have joined together in endorsing a statement calling on The Homestead Resort and the Michigan Department of Enviromental Quality to work together to correct the problem of partially-treated wastewater spray blowing into a portion of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, rendering it unavailable for public use.

Six women from the Leelanau Independent Women for Democratic Action (LIWDA) attended the Democracy Convention in Madison from Aug. 24-27. They included Barb Schneider, Betty Bushey, Jenny Olson, BJ Christensen, Betsy Johnson and Elsie Peterson.

A group recently formed in Leelanau County is speaking out for immigrant rights. With Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or I.C.E. crack-downs across Northern Michigan becoming more common, the group of concerned citizens says they want to stand up for the members of our community that don’t always have a chance to stand up for themselves.
