Codified into laws and upheld by the courts, modern zoning ordinances have evolved to become the “laws of the land.” In Leelanau County, townships possess police power to enact and enforce zoning ordinances, while the county takes an advisory role through its planning commission.
The Leelanau County Planning Commission is working to update the Leelanau General Plan, a county-wide plan regarding future development and land use in the county. The Commission is asking for your opinion on various topics such as: housing, jobs, economic development and recreation.
