Sleeping Bear Dunes celebrates opening of new Kettles Trail

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes invited the public to help celebrate the opening of the Kettles Trail during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday, Oct 20. The celebration took place at the trailhead on West Baatz Road near its intersection with South Fritz Road, west of Leelanau County Road 669. The Friends provided light refreshments. Guided hikes of the trail were offered following the ribbon cutting.

National Lakeshore to move ahead with Kettles Trail

News

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Superintendent Dusty Shultz recently announced the issuance of a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Kettles Trail Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA). The National Park Service (NPS) has selected a modified version of the Preferred Alternative (Alternative 4) presented in the EA.

National Park hosts June 4 open house for Kettles Trail Plan

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore’s Kettles Trail Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA) is now available for public review and comment. This document evaluates alternatives for developing a trail system (“Kettles Trail”) on federal lands in the Bow Lakes area of the National Lakeshore. A public open house on the project is scheduled for June 4, from 5-7 p.m. at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center Auditorium in Empire.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Superintendent Dusty Shultz announced that the National Park Service proposes to develop a trail system (“Kettles Trail”) on federal lands in the Bow Lakes area of the National Lakeshore. To do so, the National Lakeshore will prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) which will describe and analyze alternatives for the Kettles Trail.
