The Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) iconic Manitou Music series has been captured in a new compilation CD. Jack Conners, the former Manitou Music Series director and owner of Perfect World Studios in Traverse City, has curated and produced a selection of eclectic and inspired music from the Manitou Music 2013-2018 concert seasons.
If Maria Ulrich is the wizard at the sound board (or more likely these days, at the tablet and monitors), then lucky listeners and presenters alike can relax under her professional support. Ulrich will run Glen Arbor’s Manitou Music series starting next year.
The Glen Arbor Art Association’s Manitou Music Festival has a new director this summer. The successor to Harry Fried is Jack Conners, who has enjoyed a long career in the recording industry, and is no stranger to this popular local festival. This year’s Manitou Music Festival kicks off with patriotic music by the Northport Community Band on July 3 and crescendos with the annual Dune Climb concert on July 13. We spoke to Conners about his new role, and about this year’s lineup.
The Glen Arbor Art Association recently announced that Jack Conners will take over the production of the Manitou Music Festival. In recent years, Conners took over managing the sound for the series where he worked closely with outgoing director Harry Fried. Conners has built a successful career in the music world and began his career in 1973 as recording engineer for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Over the years he has mixed concert sound for Stan Kenton, The Mills Brothers and Grover Washington, Jr.
