Meeting Young Journalists Where They Are

News

Editors of the Glen Arbor Sun and The Betsie Current announce a joint project to begin working with aspiring young journalists and influencers during the summer and fall of 2026. “Meeting Young Journalists Where They Are” is an innovative way to collaborate with high school- and college-aged Northern Michiganders, who will be paid to produce compelling and topical local news in their rural communities through online video platforms. Currently, editors are looking for interested young people in Leelanau and Benzie counties to join this project, which is funded by Press Forward Northern Michigan, hosted by the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.

Friends of Sleeping Bear holds Instagram competition

Upcoming Event

Capture your postcard perfect photos of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and collect a prize at the photo celebration from the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes. Families, friends, and kids can participate in the Instagram photo adventure celebrating the natural beauty of the park and the fun of discovery it inspires. Sponsored by the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes, the photo special event is intended to lead you to explore new places and share your favorite moments on Instagram. Upload your snapshots from the park, #sleepingbearfriends by July 8, then, join at the Cherry Republic Glen Arbor Flagship store from 1-3 pm on July 9 to collect your prize.

Sleeping Bear Dunes Rangers host sunset InstaMeet at Pyramid Point Trail

On Monday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m., Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will host a free InstaMeet event to celebrate the National Park Service Centennial. An InstaMeet is an interactive, in-park event, allowing visitors to meet up, take photos, and get to know each other. Once the visitors meet, they will accompany a park ranger on a nature hike.

Chances are they follow the Glen Arbor Facebook page, which is facilitated by Paul May and his son Keenan (with help from Glen Arbor Sun co-editor Mike Buhler, and occasionally Simon Winograd, too). Paul May and wife Kristin Hurlin produce and sell their furniture, photography, ink and watercolor illustrations under the brand Glen Arbor Artisans.
