Last year marked the 26th year that the Friends of the Glen Lake Library has collected and distributed donations of new children’s books to young readers in Leelanau County. 380 books were distributed to 11 classes at the Glen Lake Elementary School, Parenting Communities, the Leelanau Children’s Center, the Benodjenh Children’s Center, Family Daycare Homes and preschoolers attending the weekly Story Hour at the Glen Lake Library.

March is national Youth Art Month. The Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) celebrates the work of young creatives with an exhibition by Glen Lake Elementary School sixth graders taught by Leah Lawson, Glen Lake Elementary art teacher, and the GAAC’s After School Art kids led by instructor Sarah Cheek-Toomey. The show runs from March 1-23.

A special local holiday tradition continues as the Glen Lake Community Library kicks off its 12th annual call for children’s books. The Friends of the Library, in cooperation with Glen Lake School’s “Parenting Communities” program, are once again collecting donations of new children’s books for children whose families are in need of assistance this holiday season.
