Leelanau native Emma Cook, now a fulltime musician who live in Burlington, Vermont, will perform with her band, Questionable Company, at the Manitou Music Festival on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. The show will be behind the Lake Street Studios in downtown Glen Arbor. The Crane Wives do a musical fly-through to the Manitou Music Festival Studio Stage on Sunday, July 29, at 8 p.m. Studio Stage is located behind Lake Street Studios, 6023 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor. In the event of rain, this concert will be moved to the Leelanau School Auditorium, 1 Old Homestead Road, Glen Arbor.
The curtain goes up twice in July for the Glen Arbor Players (GAP). On July 20-21, GAP performs Leland playwright Priscilla Cogan’s new work, “The Summer Cottage,” at 7:30 pm at the Leelanau School, 1 Old Homestead Road, just north of Glen Arbor. Cogan’s work, a comedy-drama, brings four generations of women to a lakeside cottage where they confront a range of persistent issues and old ghosts. “The Summer Cottage” is built around adult themes, such as abortion, spirits and sexuality, and is rated PG-13.
The blues duo Mulebone returns to the Manitou Music Festival (MMF) stage on Sunday, July 15, at 8 pm. Mulebone brings inventive instrumental know-how and expressive blues that evoke the Mississippi Delta to Studio Stage at 6023 S. Lake St. behind Lake Street Studios.
July 15-19 is Water Week at the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC). As part of its exhibition “New Views: Water = Life = Art,” the GAAC offers three events that examine water from different perspectives.
The Northport Community Band kicks off the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s 2018 Manitou Music Festival season on Tuesday, July 3, at 7 p.m. with a musical evening celebrating Independence Day.
School’s out, but creative thinking and learning never go on vacation. The Glen Arbor Arts Center’s visual art program for kids and teens keeps young minds engaged throughout the summer months. The GAAC offers a wide range of classes—from painting to collography to mixed media to bookmaking—where the focus is as much on fun as it is on enhancement.
After a year’s hiatus for construction, the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Artist-in-Residence [AIR] program resumes in 2018. Composer Kramer Elwell comes to Glen Arbor from Washington State in June to participate in the AIR program.
“When the new Glen Arbor Arts Center gallery opened in January, it signaled the arrival of a physical space that allows the GAAC to plan a series of exhibitions of multiple weeks’ duration—versus creating small, quickie shows that fit in between meetings and classes, all of which took place in the same room.”
