A week after the storm Shira Klein, a seasonal resident, approached Peg McCarty, director of the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA), and planted the seed for an exhibition, a show of art predicated on the hopeful belief that there was beauty to be found in the storm’s destruction. That seed-of-an-idea grew into New Views: A Storm of Art, which will be held next June 10-23 at the GAAA, on 6031 S. Lake St. in Glen Arbor. For artists wishing to exhibit their work, a prospectus describing this juried exhibition is now online at GlenArborArt.org.

The 2015 Fall for Art in Leelanau Gallery Tour will be Oct. 9-11. As part of the county-wide event, the Glen Arbor Art Association will have an exhibition of GAAA members’ artwork from Oct. 9-15. On display will be the paintings of 35 GAAA members. Most of the pieces will be for sale.

Children, grades 1-6, will have fun exploring a variety of art materials and enjoy the camaraderie of other young creators. Experienced instructors Nancy Miller and Margaret Weeks will help children tap into their creative abilities. Snack and art supplies are included in the $50 tuition fee. Tuition assistance is available. Glen Lake students may ride the bus to the Art Association after school and parents pick them up at the Art Association after class.

Join museum educator Linda Young, as she explores the fascinating lives of three American heiresses: Isabella Stewart Gardner, Bertha Honoré Palmer and Louisine Elder Havemeyer. Her talk will highlight the world of these Gilded Age collectors, the artists they befriended, and the paintings and sculptures they pursued.

The Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) Readers’ Theater productions have become eagerly anticipated, playing to a full house at nearly every performance. The next performance will be The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, with Josephine Zara as director and Celeste Crouch as assistant director. Auditions will take place at the Art Association on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. The play calls for eight men and three women.

The Glen Arbor Art Association invites artists to submit original paintings for the annual Manitou Music Festival poster competition. Deadline for the 2016 poster competition is Sept. 20.
