Dean Robb, an iconic civil rights lawyer and longtime Suttons Bay resident, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, at age 94. Robb, who grew up on a farm in southern Illinois, helped coordinate legal support for civil rights demonstrators and activists in the early 1960s in the Deep South and met Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., following the civil rights leader’s release in 1963 from Birmingham jail.
Incumbent Bunek (Republican) is challenged by Robb (Democrat) in District 3, which represents greater Suttons Bay and Lake Leelanau
The next Empire Area Community Emergency Fund Concert will be held on Sunday, July 27, from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Empire Museum and will feature a musical performance by recording artists Laura Jean Thompson and Kate Quinby with a special appearance by the legendary Dean Robb as Mark Twain.
The League of Women Voters Leelanau County (LWVLC) will host the six Leelanau County high school students who participated this summer in the “2013 Freedom Tour” on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Leelanau Government Center. The students will be there at 6:30 to meet the audience. Refreshments will be provided.
