The Michigan Land Use Institute today published its ninth annual Taste the Local Difference farm and food guide. The latest edition of the free, handy, pocket-sized guide is the largest ever. Its 104 pages list more than 250 local farms; 42 wineries, breweries and distilleries; 30 farmers markets; and 82 retail businesses and food artisans, all located in the 10-county region stretching from Manistee to the Mackinac Bridge.
The Legacy Award is bestowed annually by Michigan Legacy Art Park to recognize those who have made a positive impact on Michigan’s arts, history or culture. William and Helen Milliken will be in attendance to receive the 2011 Legacy Award during this year’s Legacy Gala on August 20 at Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa in Thompsonville, MI.
The national wedding magazine, The Knot, has named The Homestead resort north of Glen Arbor as the 2011 Best of Weddings pick among wedding venues nationwide. The Homestead, as well as other northwest-lower Michigan wedding destinations including the Inn at Bay Harbor in Petoskey, Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville and Mission Point Resort and the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island were featured in a story today in the Grand Rapids Press.

Lou Batori has been skiing for 90 years. “You have to ski to stay young, or you have to be young to ski. Your choice,” Batori said last week, skiing at Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs.
