In Leelanau County, kids who do not have access to a bike now have options, thanks to groups like Bike Leelanau, Northport Strong, and Norte, and the generous support of local businesses like McLain Cycles and Suttons Bay Bikes. The new Leelanau County Bike Library now makes it easy for ANY family to borrow a bike and get their kids rolling, just by filling out a simple form online.

The Leelanau Conservancy has announced that work to expand Palmer Wood’s Forest Reserve’s trail system is slated to begin at the end of this summer. A professional trail-building company will be hired to lead the design and construction of the first new loop added to the existing network of hiking and ski trails.

A local nonprofit aims to bring brand new, eco-conscious multi-use trails and a bolstered mountain bike community to Leelanau County, to provide more outdoor activity options for people of all ages, and to help locals rediscover the natural wonders in their own backyard.

BATA’s “Bike-n-Ride” program, which allows cyclists to pedal paved trails one way and ride the bus back in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties, is in its second season this summer—and it’s growing. Due to its popularity and demand for more service, a new Loop route has been added as well as additional weeks of service.
