The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and surrounding communities are suffering growing pains as we’ve become a prime destination for tourists from all over the world. Conscious of these growing pains, a new group called the Sleeping Bear Gateways Council is stepping forward to facilitate dialogue between the National Lakeshore, local business leaders and civic leaders.

The Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) has launched a new mobile app that allows riders to easily pay for the bus directly from their smart phones. Mobile tickets are valid for any of BATA’s fixed route City and Village Loop systems as well as its demand-response Link service.

The Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its successful Bike-n-Ride program. BATA’s Bike-n-Ride service has been helping cyclists enjoy bike trails in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties for five years. This years’ service started Saturday, May 20 and runs through the summer and fall until October 22.

Next Tuesday is Election Day, albeit an “off-year” election. Nevertheless, Leelanau County voters can continue to support Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) public transit by voting in favor of a millage that would begin in 2013 and continue through 2017.
