Suttons Bay School hosts first annual Empty Bowls virtual event

News

From staff reports

Suttons Bay Public Schools is hosting its first annual Empty Bowls silent auction and virtual event, April 14-16. Click here to register for the event and make your bids until noon on Friday, April 16.

All proceeds go toward the Leelanau Christian Neighbors food pantry and the World Food Program USA as well as to participating restaurants that helped make the event possible, including Lylah’s, VI Grill, Hang On Express and MI Market in Suttons Bay.

Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement by artists and crafts people in cities and towns around the world to care for and feed the hungry in their communities.

Here’s how Suttons Bay Public Schools got involved. The spring semester of 2021 required more elective options, so art teachers Mary Hall and Jessica Vitale had an opportunity to collaborate and create an art project that would help their students better understand how to help their local community. Vitale had developed her curriculum based on the United Nations’ 17 Global Goals and Goal 2 was Zero Hunger. This was the perfect opportunity to create an awareness of world and local hunger for students and how we can make a difference.
