Sugar Loaf Resort owner to release bid package for hotel demolition
From staff reports
The owner of the Sugar Loaf Resort property announced on March 18 that pre-demolition work at the property was completed last week in preparation for demolition of the hotel, expected to occur later this year. The pre-demolition work included removal of old maintenance materials, storage tanks and transformers from the hotel and other areas of the property.
This week the owner expects to release bid specification packages to qualified contractors to bid on the hotel demolition work. Timing for the demolition has not yet been set and will be dependent upon contractor availability, methods used, weather and other factors, including local landfill capacity. The bid specifications require the contractor to comply with all permits, safety rules, state and federal regulations and proper material disposal/recycling protocols. Envirologic, a Michigan-based, full-service environmental consulting firm, will oversee the demolition project on behalf of the owner. Envirologic has more than 30 years of experience managing projects of this type, has done extensive work in the community and has strong relationships with local officials.
Ross Satterwhite, who represents the owner in the planning and execution of demolition activities, commented, “The owner of Sugar Loaf remains focused on cleaning up the property and demolishing the hotel. We are pleased the first phase of this work is complete and look forward to finalizing plans for the hotel’s demolition. We are also very appreciative of the support from the township, county officials and residents.”
