Story time for preschoolers

CommunityLibraryPress release

The Friends of the Glen Lake Community Library would like to remind area families with preschool age children that the Library in Empire offers a weekly story time for their enjoyment. The program, called “Stories & More,” is in its seventh year and offers preschoolers, siblings and parents an opportunity to enjoy reading, singing and age-appropriate activities.

Each Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to noon, Bonnie Kay will prepare a program based on different fun themes. Bonnie has a Master’s degree in early childhood development and taught kindergarten and first grade for 18 years in Illinois before moving to this area. Bonnie engages children by reading stories, singing songs and providing interactive activities or crafts. As part of the program, parents are provided a handout listing books and words to the songs and rhymes enabling parents to continue the theme at home.

According to Bonnie, research has shown that reading to and with your children often develops early literacy skills, which result in future success.
