Former Sun contributor launches community newspaper
NewsFreshwater Reporter is a new community newspaper covering Manistee and Mason counties. The paper’s publisher and co-editor is Pat Stinson, who reported the news from Empire, Maple City and Cedar for the Sun for many years. After relocating to Manistee, Stinson said she saw a need to share more stories from rural villages in Manistee and Mason counties, as well as the larger cities of Manistee and Ludington.

Leland Library features Elemental readers, WWII author
NewsOn Monday, July 29 at 6 pm, Leelanau County local Anne-Marie Oomen and several other contributors to the Michigan Notable Book, Elemental: A Collection of Michigan Creative Nonfiction, will read their essays aloud and sign copies of the anthology at Leland Township Library. The book includes essays from 23 of our state’s most well-known writers, including Oomen, who also won a Michigan Notable Book award for her book The Lake Michigan Mermaid: A Tale in Poems this year.
