Sleeping Bear on cusp of another Good Morning American bonanza

Talk of the Town

From staff reports

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore once again find itself in the spotlight of ABC’s “Good Morning America”. In 2011, the show’s viewers picked our National Lakeshore as America’s “most beautiful place”. That gave tourism to Sleeping Bear and the Glen Arbor region a shot in the arm.

This time, ABC’s Ginger Zee is running a contest to decide where in Michigan she and the “Good Morning America” news crew should vacation. Zee grew up in Rockford, Mich.

Sleeping Bear is vying for the win, along with Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Porcupine Mountains – Lake of the Clouds Lookout.

Viewers and social media users have until noon on Thursday, May 28, to vote. You can do so by visiting this website. Celebrity chef, and Northern Michigan booster, Mario Batali has reportedly already Tweeted about this.

This region boasts a stellar record in social media-driven campaigns. In 2011, Sleeping Bear bested Asheville, NC, to win the “most beautiful place in America” honor. In 2008, Traverse City-based Moomers was voted the nation’s best ice cream. In 2013, the Honor-based Cherry Bowl Drive-In won a new digital projection system from Honda Motor Co., based on popular vote. And earlier this month, Traverse City musician Joshua Davis made it to the finals on the NBC show “The Voice” based on social media support.
