Park holds Port Oneida Sampler instead of Fair

From staff reports

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has canceled the Port Oneida Fair this year (it was also canceled in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Although the Park continues to work toward a phased reopening of Park facilities, the uncertainty about when public health guidance will safely allow large gatherings of people prompted staff to cancel the Fair.

Instead, the Park invites the public to a Port Oneida Sampler, which will be held on four consecutive Wednesday afternoons in August. On each day, one of the Port Oneida farms will open a barn or house for one-way traffic and tours and may have a demonstrator on site.

Those dates and locations are: Aug. 4, Dechow Farm; Aug. 11, Olsen Farm; Aug. 18, Kelderhouse Farm; Aug 25, Thoreson Farm.

Historic Sleeping Bear will also be selling available Fair posters online and at the Port Oneida Heritage Center/Olsen Farm, which is open Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday 1-4 p.m.

The 2022 Port Oneida Fair is scheduled for the weekend of August 12-13.
