Palmer Woods groomed, ready to ski; Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail needs more snow

From staff reports

Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes reports that the snow accumulation in recent days blanketed Palmer Woods with approximately 2 inches of fluff. That destination east of the Glen Lakes has a solid base to groom, and ski conditions there are excellent.

However, the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail along the lakeshore received only an inch of snow. Ski conditions there are marginal. It’s possible to glide between Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and Greenan Road, but poles hit the pavement. Skiing on the Heritage Trail is not recommended.

Backcountry hiking trails:

Trails at higher elevation like Alligator Hill, Shauger Hill, Kettles, and Bay View have about 2 inches of snow. Enough to glide, but maybe better to hike than to try to ski.

The Friends’ latest ski report information is updated regularly on their website.
