Manitou Music Festival presents Blue Horizon on Maritime Museum Lawn
From staff reports
What a perfect combination for a concert, a Maritime Folk Band on the lawn of the Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Maritime Museum, the original Life Saving Station. Join us for this first concert at this very unique venue on Wednesday, July 20, from 7-9 p.m.
After years of success as a solo artist, Great Lakes troubadour Lee Murdock has formed a new band, Blue Horizon, adding buoyant harmonies and rhythmic undercurrents to build a sound that’s as refreshing as a splash of fresh water over the bow.
Murdock is broadly acknowledged as “the premier interpreter of songs and tales about the Great Lakes,” Blue Horizon’s arrangements of Lee’s carefully researched traditional tunes is a meeting of the old and the new, as they come alongside tradition with original ballads of contemporary commerce and revelry in the grand folk style. Limited seating is provided. You are welcome to bring your own chairs and picnic baskets.
Admission is $15 for the 8 p.m. concert; Children 18 and under are free. Tickets are available at the Glen Arbor Art Association office and Lake Street Studios in Glen Arbor and online at GlenArborArt.org.
