Lowery returns with watercolors

Grand Ledge artist Michael Lowery returns to Leelanau County with a new body of watercolor paintings on Friday, July 27 at Center Gallery, 6023 S. Lake St. in Glen Arbor. An artist’s reception is scheduled from 6 p.m.-sundown. The exhibition continues through Aug. 2.

Lowery approaches the genre of landscape painting from an architectural, narrative perspective. He has built a body of evocative work that celebrates old homesteads—the porches, the laundry line of clothes drying in the sun, the crows perched on the roof top. All the signs of farm life are there, even if the artist chooses to suggest their presence through other, subtle symbols.
