Human Nature School holds Art in Nature, June 3

From staff reports

Calling all nature artists! Please join the Human Nature School on Sunday, June 3, from 1-6 p.m. at Leelanau Studios (previously Norris Elementary School) for “Art in Nature” open to families, individuals, and people of all ages.

The event will feature a contemplative walk along a winding, wooded pathway next to a rippling creek. Art will be displayed along the trail to intrigue the senses with no distractions. Just the viewer and artistic creations enveloped in nature. This is an opportunity to view art in a non-gallery natural setting. A scavenger hunt will be offered for kids, of all ages. Guests are welcome to participate in an additional, collaborative art project on site.

Leelanau Studios is located at the northwest corner of Cherry Bend Rd. and M-22, one mile north of Tom’s West Bay. The event will be on the quarter-mile wooded trail behind the Studios. Follow the signs.

Human Nature School values new opportunities to expand the circle of those interested in its mission to foster a deep connection to the natural world. By removing unnatural distractions, this event will provide an opportunity for observers to experience nature from different angles and through an artistic lens.

Who are the artists? Hopefully you along with others who draw, paint, sculpt, weave, photograph, or otherwise create art from nature’s inspiration. This event is open to all artists, regardless of medium. You are encouraged to display an original piece of your art. Some artists will create pieces that are intended to be exposed to weather. Cover will be provided for any artwork that is not weather-proof. Any size of submission and all materials are accepted. Pieces can be displayed in any fashion, including hanging your art from a tree on this trail.
