Glen Lake Library hosts Michael Brennan, Katherine Reay

From staff reports

The Glen Lake Community Library in Empire will host Michael Brennan, author of the limited edition chapbook River Sacred: Uncovering the Crystal on Thursday, July 20 at 7 pm. His book is the result of a decades-long connection with the Crystal River, and explores the delicate natural balance and beauty of this unique ecosystem. Brennan, a Glen Arbor resident, will share essays and photographs from his book, and offer insights into the importance of more mindful stewardship. (Our March 2023 story, “Exploring sacred Crystal River” featured Brennan and his book.)

On Wednesday, July 26, at 6 pm the library will host Katherine Reay, author of the newly published A Shadow in Moscow. Set in the dark days of the Cold War, the book is told from alternating points of view—that of Ingrid, a woman who lost everyone she loved in the final days of World War II, and the other of Anya, a young woman who grew up in Moscow before getting her college education in the United States. Reay has published numerous previous works, of both fiction and nonfiction, and holds a BA and MS from Northwestern University. She currently lives outside Chicago, but is a frequent visitor to the Glen Lake area. Copies of her new book will be available for sale at the reading, courtesy of the Cottage Book Shop.
