Glen Arbor Sun wins six awards from Michigan Press Association’s 2024 Better Newspaper Contest

The Glen Arbor Sun won six awards in four different categories from the Michigan Press Association’s 2024 Better Newspaper Contest among local news media for stories published between August 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024.

In the News Enterprise Reporting category, Jacob Wheeler won second place for his June 2024 story: “Twin Flames Universe holds covert Traverse City wedding,” and third place for his May 2024 story: “Can we coexist with black bears?

In Best Opinion, Tim Mulherin won first place for his August 2023 story: “Overlooking Jim Harrison,” and Eric Carlson won third place for his July 2024 story: “In defense of journalism, civil liberties, and a more perfect union,” which was reprinted from his address at the Glen Lake Woman’s Club annual Flag Raising at Old Settlers Park on July 4.

In Sports Writing, Wheeler won first place for his January 2024 story: “Confessions of a once reluctant Michigan Wolverine.”

And in the Public Service Award category, Daniel Wanschura won second place for his August 2024 story: “Pier Pressure: remembering a drowning in Frankfort” which was adapted from a radio story he produced for Interlochen Public Radio.
