Glen Arbor gets a new doc

Business Feature, Local Personality

From staff reports

Mark McBride, aka “Doctor Bear”, opened his Glen Arbor practice in March next to the Martin Company. He sees patients on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in Glen Arbor and the other days of the week in his Traverse City office at 990 Garfield. Starting in late August another doctor, Alexander Maxeiner will join McBride.

A native of Novi, Mich., McBride has worked for years in the advanced chiropractic field in the Chicago area. He’s also knowledgeable about the areas of physical therapy, nutrition, blood testing, massage, physical exams and fitness. He grew up playing football, downhill skiing and wrestling.  McBride’s mother introduced their family to Glen Arbor when he was in elementary school. In 1984, the family realized their lifelong dream when they purchased a small cottage on Big Glen Lake. McBride spent his childhood summers on the lake learning how to water ski, taking sailing lessons at the Yacht Club, biking around the lake and spending hours playing on the Sleeping Bear Dunes. McBride, 41, currently resides in Cedar and loves living where everyone else vacations.

“My overall approach is to take care of your body, your whole body,” says McBride. “Lots of people treat their cars better than their body. I always mention to my patients that if they make time for their body, their body will make more time for them. You can take time to treat your body now or it will force you to take time when it breaks down at the most inopportune moments in your life.”

McBride’s favorite way to spend a day in the Glen Arbor area is biking around the Glen Lakes or waterskiing. Once or twice a year he bikes around both lakes, then kayaks across them and hikes the Dunes to Lake Michigan and back.

Check out his clinic at DoctorBearTC.com or call 231-499-1573.
