Empire Asparagus Festival seeks entries for recipe, poetry contests

From staff reports

The annual Empire Asparagus Festival, which will be held on Saturday, June 3, invites entries for both its popular recipe and poetry contests.

It is easy and free to enter the fun and well-attended recipe contest. Bring your favorite asparagus dish (enough to accommodate 100 bite-size servings) along with this completed form to the Empire Township Hall on Main Street between 11 am and 11:30 am on June 3. If you make soup, a crock-pot is a good idea. The public (100 people maximum) will be allowed in, tasting will begin at noon and usually finishes by 1:30 pm.

The coveted “People’s Choice Awards,” as well as first, second and third place will be chosen by the public and, fabulous prizes will be given.

The contest also seeks five-six kitchen volunteers to portion dishes into bite-size servings (supplies will be provided). The shift is 11 am-1:15 pm at the Empire Town Hall kitchen.
